The FT2232HL-REEL is FTDI's fifth-generation dual-channel USB 2.0 high-speed to multi-function UART/FIFO interface chip, packaged in a 64-pin LQFP surface-mount format. This chip fully handles the USB protocol internally, enabling bridging between USB and various serial or parallel interfaces without requiring specific USB firmware programming.
The chip is fully compatible with the USB 2.0 High-Speed (480 Mbps) specification. Its key feature is the built-in dual Multi-Protocol Synchronous Serial Engine (MPSSE), which can be flexibly configured as JTAG, SPI (master mode), I²C, or bit-bang mode. It also supports UART data rates up to 12 Mbaud and parallel FIFO mode (rate > 25 Mbytes/second).
The chip is highly integrated, featuring an independent baud rate generator and adjustable receive buffer timeout function. It supports 1.8V (core) and +3.3V I/O interfaces (tolerant to 5V input), and includes a TXDEN pin for automatic transmit enable control in RS485 serial applications. It supports multiple USB configurations, including bus-powered, self-powered, and high-power bus-powered modes. The operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C, with an MSL level of Level-3.
